Star’s women enjoy success
Star Club’s Senior women’s squad enjoyed success over two days in May, beginning with the Peterborough Spring Regatta.
On the Saturday the IM3 coxed eight crew of Jenny Morling, Kit Mulvaney, Lisa Mason, Carly May, Maya Kommer, Kirsten Proctor, Michelle Collard, Sophie Barnwell and cox Martine Kushner won their heat by flying off the start and holding their position to win by five seconds to reach the final.
In the final, against Furnivall, Cambridge City and Reading RC, Reading RC proved too strong in the last 250m to take the victory as Star came in second out of the 10 boats.
On the Sunday Star Club Senior women fielded an IM3 coxed four made up of Morling, May, Collard, Barnwell and cox Helen Thompson.
After winning through their heat easily, Star faced two Leeds crews in the semi-finals. Leading straight off the start, Star held a length and a half to finish first.
In the final, Star were against Leeds RC, DeMontfort University and Cantabrigians.
A tense race saw Star push on in the last 250m to ease a length and a half away from DeMontfort University.
Following success at the Peterborough Spring Regatta, Star Club Senior women’s squad sent an IM3 coxed four of Mulvaney, Morling, Jess Cusack, Collard and cox Thompson to Marlow, but due to entries they were forced to race up a status at IM2.
This though didn’t faze the crew, who after a very windy start, came second to Henley RC.
Star are reaping the rewards of coach Brian Thompson’s hard work and dedication, to whom their new Wintech boat is aptly named after.
