Star make a stir at St Neots Regatta

Large haul of wins for Bedford rowers

A large haul of wins was secured by Star Club at the St Neots Regatta at the weekend.

The highest status win once again went to the S2 eight of Mark Bavington, James Robson, Thomas Hetherington, Will Todd, Richard Slaymaker, Kevin Bullard, David Osgood, Chris Callow and cox Josh Hetherington, who beat Sudbury RC by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

Chris Callow, Richard Slaymaker, David Osgood, Kevin Bullard and cox Josh Hetherington also teamed up to win the S2 coxed fours event by beating rivals Milton Keynes.

Star Club formed a Junior men's eight for the first time in many years. The crew of Josh Butler, Josh Williamson, Oliver Miller, Sam Butler, Jason Burns, Chris Durrant, Laurence James, Robert Turner and cox Tom Durrant beat Sons Of The Thames Rowing Club by four lengths.

The women's Novice four of Amy Hutchinson, Jess Tate, Jackie Angus, Janet Herbert and cox Anne Marie King also got in on act the act by beating hosts St Neots RC.

The Junior women were not to be outdone with Carman Failla, Brooke Hamshere, Hui Lang Manley and Meredith Powell beating Bedford RC in the final by three and a quarter lengths.

Ruby Ellam and Jo Haywood rounded off a successful day's racing over the 1,000m course with a win in the women's J15 doubles against club colleagues Hannah Miller and Helena Rozman.

Star Club also competed in the Sunday Sprint races and added yet more silverware to the trophy cabinet, with Mark

Bavington, Will Todd, Thomas Hetherington, Richard Slaymaker and cox Josh Hetherington beating Milton Keynes in the S2 fours.

Chris Callow won the final of the S1 single scull, coming home just two feet ahead of Huntingdon RC. A successful weekend was rounded off with a win for the men's S3 eight of James Gani, Pete Talboys, Ian Herbert, Dave Kempsell, Darren Skuse, David Oldham, David Osgood, James Black and cox Heather Oldham, beating

Sudbury in the final.
