Star host rescheduled event
Star Rowing Club held their rescheduled Head Of The River Race at the weekend after the original event in October was postponed due to heavy fog.
Many clubs turned up to support the event and the home crews were successful in a number of categories.
These included the men’s Elite coxed eight, stroked by men’s squad captain Will Eason, who finished in an impressive time of 5.48mins, which was the fastest of the day.
Eason then teamed up with fellow Senior men’s squad member Alex Miller to win the Elite coxless pairs event in 6.54mins.
The men’s squad was also victorious in the Senior coxless pairs with a time of 7.03mins.
Star Juniors also did well, winning the J15 single sculls, the J16 double sculls, the J18 coxless quads, the Novice coxless quads and the women’s J17 single sculls.
The Masters and Veteran squads performed admirably too with club captain Chris Callow winning the Masters A single sculls in a time of 7.43mins, while a mixed coxed Masters C/E four of Janet Tredget, Sue Lamb, Simon Clarke and Maurice Stanbridge won their category in 8.04mins.
The club now looks forward to the rest of the winter season and begin training for the Eights Heads Of The River in London.
