Fourteen-year-old Ben Smith from Eversholt will be competing in English Alpine Championships in Bormio, Italy from February 10-17.

The championships, consisting of seven events, will attract over 500 racers covering minis to seniors.

Smith, a member of Ambition Race Team, started skiing from the age of three and has competed in Alpine races over the last winter in Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria and his nearest slope is Sno!Zone, Milton Keynes.

The Bedford School pupil has achieved several top five places in 2011 and has been training hard for Bormio 2012. He said: “I am looking forward to the Super-G event most as we don’t often get to do this and I love the speed.”

SSE chief executive Tim Fawke added: “Talking from experience, I can completely understand the young racers need for speed and this competition is a fantastic opportunity to come together, gain some professional racing experience and sportsmanship and achieve in the sport they love.”
