Shields success at top of Bedford’s bill

The Park Inn provided the backdrop for an evening of top-quality amateur boxing on Monday night as Bedford Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) hosted Welsh club Bridgend ABC.
Steve Shields was one of the three Bedford boxers in action, and topped the bill against Bridgend’s M Mason.
As the fight progressed, Shields was moving his head well and countering with success as he took the points decision by a majority.
Bedford’s Nathan Lambert continues to enjoy a fine start to his amateur career, securing another dominant win.
Lambert squared up against Bridgend’s C Lawrence and it the second round, Lambert bloodied his nose following a string of stinging shots.
Behind on the scorecards, the Welsh boxer came out swinging in the third and final round, which forced the Bedford boxer on to the ropes.
Lambert launched an onslaught of his own, forcing a standing count after landing a series of punishing shots. The Bedford boxer was awarded a unanimous points win.
