SATURDAY: Reds live on in FA Vase ... but Potton bow out

Defeats for Blues, Waders Rokermen and United

Langford lived to fight another day in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase after they were outplayed by Essex side Mountnessing at Forde Park this afternoon.

Ironically the Reds actually took the lead in the 67th minute when a long Jamie Taylor throw-in was turned past his own goalkeeper by Mountnessing's left back Barry Fox.

But thanks to a string of saves by man of the match Scott Waters and a linesman's flag, Langford looked as though that fortunate goal would be enough until Josh Cole snatched the equaliser two minutes into stoppage time.

So it went to another 30 minutes and when that failed to produce a winner, the two sides now have to do it all over again and as Mountnessing groundshare with Brentwood (who have a home game on Tuesday), the tie will now be played on Thursday instead.

For fellow SSML side Stotfold, the misery of playing in a new league continued at Roker Park were they were outplayed by bottom of the table Kentish Town who collected the three points after recording their first win of the season.

The Rokermen went ahead on 28 minutes against the run of play when Ryan Aldrin swivelled and delivered a cracking 15 yard volley past Jason Hartles in the visitors goal.

But the second half was just four minutes old when James Lindsay's exocet from the edge of the box found the top corner of Brad Gillham's net for 1-1.

Then with 20 minutes left, good build up play by the Londoners ended with Gillham saving from Lee Scott only for home defender Ryan Ellis to turn the loose ball into his own net for 2-1.

Biggleswade United's midweek derby 2-1 win at Langford was quickly forgotten as they were beaten at Colney Heath in a repeat of the 4-0 drubbing they received seven days earlier against Leverstock Green.

In the Zamaretto Southern League, Arlesey Town suffered a 2-1 defeat at Uxbridge despite taking a tenth minute lead courtesy of Chris Watters.

But the home side hit back ten minutes later through Farrell while Cicero netted the winner five minutes into the second half.

Biggleswade Town may have thumped Newmarket 5-1 last weekend in the FA Cup but this afternoon at the Carlsberg Stadium it was the same scoreline against them in the league's Central Division when they hosted Slough Town.

Again Paul Barnes was on the scoresheet for the Town in the 58th minute but by then the Waders were 2-0 down thanks to Logie (10 mins) and Sinclair (52).

And with Sinclair going in to complete his hat-trick in the 63rd and 77th minutes, Bateman's 84th minute strike brought up Slough's nap hand in front of 181 spectators.

Making their exit from this season's FA Vase competition this afternoon were Potton United who also crashed 5-1 away to Shrivenham.
