SAS team romp home in Greensand Ridge relay

Bedford Harriers' SAS Squad successfully retained their trophy at the annual Greensand Ridge Relay.

The squad once again won the mixed team race, with 3 ladies and 3 men running the 34 miles in 3.53 hours. The same team also came second overall in the handicap team trophy - missing first place by just 11 seconds. Harriers SAS squad beat their handicap time – set according to age and gender by 50.28 minutes.

Team DJ Mass also placed well, coming third in the handicap trophy. Notable individual performances were by Kirstie Meeten, who set a new age group record for her leg of the relay and then by her son Callum Webb, who also set the U16 record for his leg, having recce’d the course only that morning.

Continuing the EMGP series, the Harborough 5 mile race was won by Steve Horton in a 27.13mins, with Anna Folland first lady in 30.59 mins. Anna was also part of the victorious first ladies team, along with Sally Cartwright and Sally Johnson. There was a plethora of age category placings, with Morris Dempster winning the MV65 section, whilst Neil Lovesey, Sally Cartwright, Sally Johnson and Veronica Singleton-Lawley all placed second in their age groups.
