The Blues Academy were thrashed by an outstanding Leicester Tigers side at the Tigers’ training ground at Oadby.

The Tigers opened their scoring with a close range try from England U18 captain, number 8 Charlie Beckett, before going on to score three further tries in the first half, to take a half-time lead of 26-0.

Five further tries in the second half gave them a convincing 59-0 win.

With a number of England’s U18 squad in their team – fresh from an unbeaten tour of South Africa – the Tigers were too strong for a Blues Academy side who, although well beaten, never gave in.

Blues Academy director, Denis Ormesher, said: “This was an outstanding performance by the Tigers Academy.

“Their combination of pace and power was too much for us to cope with.

“We were pleased with the character showed by the Blues players.

“Tigers are a very big, very physical side, yet the Blues players never gave in.

“They took a real battering in the contact area but fought for every ball right to the end of the game.

“Tigers showed us the standard we need to aim for in physicality, power and pace.”
