Ampthill U16s retained their Beds Cup title as they thrashed Biggleswade 37-0 in a one-sided final.

From the kick-off Ampthill made the early yards and dominated Biggy’s half, with captain for the day Max Noble crossing the whitewash within two minutes and Charlie Fleckney after eight minutes.

A’s domination continued through the early part of the half, with Peter Smith and Fleckney being dominant in the lineouts.

The pressure saw full-back Liam Everitt crossing for another try after 10 minutes following good set piece moves in the backs.

The remainder of the first half perhaps saw Ampthill ease up and their discipline levels drop which allowed Biggy to regroup and start to play some of their own game, though outside centre Kyle McSwiggan managed to cross for another A’s try in the 24th minute.

At oranges Ampthill led by 22-0, but with inside centre Curtis Hymus in the sin bin.

Ampthill started the second half strongly, but Biggleswade were up for the fight and were looking to get on the board, with more possession in the Ampthill half and threatening the try line on occasions.

Ampthill’s defence remained strong and enabled further tries to come in the 46th minute from Sol Tovey following good work down the left wing, Charlie Fleckney crossing in the 66th minute and Eugene Ekuban in the 69th to secure the win.

At the final whistle Ampthill were the victors by 37 points to nil but an entertaining game had been enjoyed by a decent sized crowd who saw the A’s lift the Cup for the second successive year.
