Work ethic is key for Bassett says Pritchard

BLUES: Bedford Blues captain James Pritchard has urged team-mate Josh Bassett to keep working hard after the young winger was named in the England U20 squad, writes James Heneghan.
The 19-year-old has made a sensational start to his Blues career – scoring 17 tries this season – and Pritchard believes Bassett could go far if he keeps his head down.
The Canadian full-back said: “It’s just the work ethic that’s the most important thing.
“It’s a bit discouraging because a lot of these boys come through the ranks and are picked on what they’ve done at school level but Josh has earned his right to be there.
“He was never a privileged rugby school boy and he’s had to fight to make it up there. He’s gone through the academy here and he’s been noticed on his ability.
“I think if he just keeps his head down and keeps working then he’s going to go far.
“He has some great ability but there’s also plenty to work on and no player is complete – there are always things to work on.
“I’m always learning new things in training so you can never rest. As long as you keep chasing and keep working hard then it’s going to come.”
Pritchard himself has been involved in three World Cups and knows what it takes to make it all the way, adding: “I’ve seen a lot of talented players come and go because they aren’t prepared to put in the work.
“I think having that work ethic is more important than talent because there are so many distractions outside of rugby.”
