Students prove too strong against Bedford Blues colts
BEDFORD Academy U19s were beaten 15-9 by Oxford University U21s on Saturday.
The hosts trailed 15-0 at half time as Oxford kicked a penalty, before adding a converted try under the posts.
Blues four it hard to get back into the game and Oxford added another try as Bedford also lost Harry Key to a yellow card before the break.
Despite being a man short, Blues fought back as Elliot Clements-Hill kicked a penalty, but the colts struggled to gain any meaningful possession against a heavier, well-organised visiting pack.
Bedford finished strongly though and an outstanding solo effort from centre Alex Awenat with five minutes left gave Oxford a nervous finish, but they held on.
Blues are in National Colts Cup action this weekend, against Hinckley at Biddenham School on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
