Scots like great Price as Ali answers U20 call up

BLUES: Burgeoning young Bedford Blues talent Ali Price had been named in the 40-strong Scotland U20 squad for the upcoming U20 Six Nations tournament.

Academy director Denis Ormesher hailed the fly-half, saying: “We are delighted with this selection for Ali.

“He has taken his chances with the Blues well and has trained hard to get where he has.

“He is still only 18, and will be in contention for Scotland U20s next season as well.

“Ali is another great example that with the Blues Academy development path, and with a lot of hard work from the player, players will develop and progress.”

Price has travelled up to Edinburgh to join up with Peter Wright’s squad in the hope of making the starting squad when the competition kicks off on February 3 against England in Glasgow.

Scotland U20s begin their RBS 6 Nations campaign on Friday 3rd February against England under-20 at Firhill in Glasgow.

They will then travel to Wales on Friday 10th February before playing France under-20s at Netherdale, Galashiels on Friday 24th February.

After taking on Ireland under-20s on Friday 9th March their campaign culminates with a match against Italy under-20s on Friday 16th March.

Scotland are then working towards the under-20s Rugby World Cup in South Africa later this year.

Wisbech School pupil Price joined the Blues Academy a year ago on the recommendation of Eastern Counties U18s.

On joining the Blues Academy he established himself quickly in the U19 squad and had an outstanding game, scoring twice, in the Blues National Colts Knock Out Cup Final win at Franklin’s Gardens at the end of the season.

He was invited to train with the Blues first XV during pre-season, and he is now a student at the University of Bedfordshire.

Price has already played four games for the Blues first XV this season in the British & Irish Cup and the Championship. He made his Blues debut in the cup win at home to Esher.
