Skipper Sacha Harding was pleased with his side’s ‘mo-mentous’ 32-6 victory against Cornish Pirates at Goldington Road on Friday, writes Michael Hann.

The Blues were in control from the third minute when Jake Sharp rasped a penalty through the posts.

The fly-half went on to kick 22 points in total and Harding praised Sharp, and the manner in which the Blues reigned triumphant.

He said afterwards: “I think that is the most controlled we have played this season and we have been trying that all year. The boys have done really well.

“Every team you play in this competition is tough, but with someone like Jake in the team you have got to go for the points.

“We really wanted to keep them at arm’s length and we gave them a few easy penalties.

“But we got on top of that, got a bit of field position, and when we got in the red zone we took the points.”

Pirates struggled to cope with the Blues pack and their driving mauls put the visitors on the back foot on numerous occasions.

“We have been really working hard on that in training,” Harding said.

“The boys have been really putting it in and to come away with the points like we did tonight was really pleasing.”

Harding was given the captain’s armband against the Pirates and he spoke of his pride at leading the team to an impressive victory.

“It was a huge honour,” he continued. “I have been here since I was 17 so every time you get to captain the team it is always a privilege. I was just fortunate that it worked out well tonight.”

The Blues flanker was also delighted that so many people came out to support Movember and raise money for charity.

“It is a fantastic effort as a club, we always try to support Movember,” he added. “Every year it seems to grow and now it feels like the whole town’s on board. Everywhere you go in Bedford everyone has got a Mo popping up and it is really good to see.”
