It’s a switch of fixtures for Biggy
THERE is a trip up the A6 to Rushden rather than across to Dunstable for Biggleswade Rugby’s First XV as their important league game against Rushden and Higham is rearranged for Saturday kicking off at 2.15pm.
Biggy were expecting to play Dunstablians in the Bedfordshire Cup but as league fixtures take precedent over cup games, the match postponed from last Saturday will be played tomorrow.
However the Bedfordshire Cup tie was confirmed on Monday to be played away to Dunstablians on Saturday, February 25.
Despite delaying the pitch inspection until 11am last Saturday, Biggleswade were powerless to prevent the 2nd XV friendly against Leighton Buzzard being postponed due to frozen ground.
“We had temperatures down to minus 8 degrees on two consecutive days,” said press officer Martin Harwood.
“Despite this, we were hopeful that we would be able to play but unfortunately the sun did not do enough to thaw the ground”
Biggy were not hit as hard as many clubs, having only one home game last weekend with the Minis game at Stockwood Park also falling to the wintery weather, as did the schools festival planned for the previous day.
The Midlands Division 3 games were decimated with all matches falling victim to the frost with games being rescheduled for tomorrow, while the postponed Youth games in the Saracens Herts & Middlesex Leagues will be switched to the next ‘slip’ date.
Biggleswade Second XV are due to host Hitchin 2s in a friendly fixture tomorrow.
