In-form Saints see off Blues

BLUES: In-form Northampton Saints Academy turned a 19-3 half time lead into a 40-8 victory over the Bedford Blues Academy U19s at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

Saints scored six tries through Will Hooley, Howard Packman, Alex Wootton, Josh Skelcey, Charlie Esam and Sam Harry, with Hooley converting five.

The Blues try came from flanker Ollie Clough with full-back Elliot Clement-Hill kicking a penalty. Saints, with a number of full-time professionals like Alex Day and Danny Herriott in their ranks, were too strong for the Blues.

Academy director Denis Ormesher said: “Saints were clinical in their finishing. We missed some crucial one-on-one tackles 15 minutes either side of half time and Saints punished us.

“I was pleased with our set-piece, with scrum and lineout going well. Our contact skills were good against a physical Saints side, but our defence let us down.”
