Illness will result in changes for Bedford

BEDFORD Blues director of rugby Mike Rayer is looking to ring the changes for this week’s trip to Moseley in the penultimate Championship game of the regular season, writes James Heneghan.
An outbreak of illness within the squad along with the fight for places as the play-offs approach will give other players a chance to show what they can do.
Rayer said: “Mark Kohler finished last week’s game with a knee problem but apart from that we’ve got a bit of sickness in the camp at the moment – a few boys are struggling with a bug so we’ll have to monitor that.
“We will make changes this week because I want to see some of the boys put their hand up.
“I think Jon Fisher deserves a start because he’s been patient, Henry Staff and Dave Vincent will come in and Paul Tupai and Alex Rae will be back.
“All along I’ve wanted a bit of consistency. The core of the side will remain. We need to see Luke Baldwin to have a run because I need three scrum-halves going into the play-offs. I thought Jamie Lennard was very good last week so he deserves another run out because we need competition for number 10.”
On facing Moseley, Rayer added: “It’s always a difficult task. We watched them a bit this week and you can see that they never make it easy and they never roll over. I think it’s going to even tougher at their place because they’ll be desperate for points and they have a good record at home so they’ll fancy their chances.”
