Hynes rues Dodge break and Blues’ errors

Bedford Blues coach Martin Hynes was left frustrated after his side fell to a 23-13 defeat against Bristol on Sunday, writes Michael Hann.
James Pritchard kicked a penalty and scored a converted try as the Blues coped well in the difficult first half conditions.
But the home side were resurgent in the second half and scored two tries that condemned the Blues to their first defeat of the season.
“There is a lot of frustrations with errors,” Hynes admitted afterwards. “But I think what we should do really is turn it on its head and say what a great performance from Bristol.
“They played the conditions very well.
“They were very disciplined and their structure on the game allowed them to reap the rewards.
“We faltered with some of the things that we had done well in the first half and Bristol packed the game up really well.
“I have no issues when you are beaten by the better side.”
The Blues’ defeat was made worse by a suspected broken leg to winger Ollie Dodge, but Hynes is hopeful that it the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.
“We think it is broken,” he continued. “The doctors have said if it is the bone they think it is then it won’t be as bad as it could have been, so we are hoping for the best.”
Bedford take on Newcastle in a mouthwatering game this weekend, however the forwards coach says they need to put this game to bed before thinking about that.
He added: “It is an old cliché but we take every game as it comes and we prepare for every game as it comes – you can’t look two or three weeks ahead.
“That performance today wasn’t good enough for us, it wasn’t good enough for our fans and we need to have a look at ourselves.
“Falcons play slightly different than Bristol do and we are aware of that so let’s not move away too far from where we are now.
“We will try and fix things up for next week and let’s keep things in focus, it’s today’s game and we weren’t good enough.”
