Bedford Swifts 51 Bourne 0

Bedford Swifts romped to a 51-0 victory over Bourne in Midlands Four East South.

On a paddyfield of a pitch, Swifts totally dominated and opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes when Paul Cooper went over in the corner for an unconverted try following a period of sustained forwards pressure.

The second try came from player/coach Sam Richbell who came up with the ball from a catch-and-drive mover, although the conversion was again missed.

Richbell scored Swifts’ third try with a pick-and-drive from the base of the scrum, before converting himself.

And Swifts’ bonus point try came before half time when Simon Bunday fed the ball to Phil Cliff who bounced off a couple if tacklers to score under the posts to give Richbell an easy conversion as the host led 24-0 at the break.

The second half started with Swifts still in total control and they kept the scoreboard ticking over when Ben Wooldridge scored out wide after Swifts’ back line had torn through their opposite numbers for an unconverted try.

Bunday scored the try of the game when he belied his age to run in from 35 metres without a defender getting near.

Rob Rowland claimed the seventh try on the hours with a catch-and-drive score, before Bunday notched his second after good work by the backs, with Richbell adding the extras.

And winger Cooper ran in his second try to score out wide and seal a good home win in appalling conditions.
