FIFTEEN members of last season’s Bedford Blues Academy squad have been invited to train with the senior squad for phase one of their pre-season programme.

They are props Josh Smith and Matt Collins, second-rows Gareth Baxter, Alex Smith and Josh Walker, back-rows Ben Brownlie and Bry White, scrum-half Alex Smit and backs Alex Awenat, Harry Key, Nathan Donnachie, Jordan Husband, Felix Streeton, Dean Adamson and Aaron Morris.

Academy director Denis Ormesher said: “The players have worked hard all season and deserve this opportunity.

“I am confident that all of them will do well and that they will push some of the seniors in training.”

“Half of them will still be Academy age this season and the experience of training with the first XV this summer will help them understand the standard they need to achieve if they want to play Championship rugby.

”They all have a chance to impress Mike Rayer over the summer. Some of them may impress enough to feature in the Blues squad this season. All of them will benefit from the experience.

“Scrum-half Ali Price has already signed a contract with the Blues for next season and follows in the footsteps of Josh Bassett the year before. Another ex-Blues Academy player Tom Armes joins the Blues frist XV squad this season.

“If a player is good enough, and works hard enough, they will get a chance at the Blues.”
