BLUES: Hosts given a bloody nose
Doncaster defeat could be of benefit
Bedford Blues director of rugby Mike Rayer believes that the defeat inflicted by Doncaster on Saturday could do his side some good.
The Knights claimed a 23-12 victory at Goldington Road to give themselves a strong chance of snatching a top eight spot and Rayer was quick to praise the visitors.
He said: "We huffed and puffed, but we came up against a really good defence.
"They slowed the ball up at the tackle area which didn't help us, but we knew that was going to be the case.
"Our problem was that we weren't smart in our decision making. We had a good chance in the first half and took the wrong option and an interception try doesn't help matters.
"It's frustrating because we had plenty of possession and we can't be faulted for effort.
"They came here desperate for the points and you have to credit them for the way they played."
Despite the reverse, the Blues are still fourth in the Championship standings and a five-point victory in their final league game against Rotherham next month will guarantee them fourth.
And Rayer is of the belief that there will be no adverse effects from the weekend's result.
He added: "We've been given us a bit of a bloody nose from this, but it could stand us in good stead for the play-offs."
