BLUES: Director of rugby Mike Rayer is hoping more players will play a part for the Bedford Blues next season as part of their dual-registration agreement with Premiership Saracens.

After a massively successful first season, which saw the likes of James Short, Jackson Wray, Jake Sharp and Will Fraser all play regularly, only scrum-half Luke Baldwin played a major part at the tail-end of last term.

The World Cup skewed the flow, as Rayer said: “The year before we were fortunate with Jackson Wray and Will Fraser and some of the other lads. We’ve been less fortunate this year, but it’s been a bit of an anomaly with the World Cup. Those lads have gone on to be regulars with Saracens.

“There’s no guarantee that’s why I need my core group of players under contract here. It’s nice to have from Saracens really to boost the squad numbers.”
