BLUES: Bedford Blues will head to the south of France for a pre-season training camp.

Last year the club’s destination was Jersey, and director of rugby Mike Rayer thinks these exercises are crucial in building the vital ingredient that is team spirit.

He said: “We’re organising a trip down to south of France for pre-season. Whether we play a fixture down there or having a training game, we’ll see what that brings to the guys.

“A lot of our pre-season is based around the training camp and the chairman came up with that, so it’s a step forward from Jersey last year.

“We’ve had some good camps and on the back of that you can gain a lot. It’s been our spirit that has kept us together defensively this year and that’s borne out of August as well as during the season.”
