Blues: Bedford Blues Academy U19s won a tight game against Loughborough University U20s 10-5 at the weekend.

In a tough physical game the Blues defence won the game as, after leading 7-0 at the break, they were able to hold off the students in the second half.

Bedford took the lead after 20 minutes when lock Ben Latimer claimed a good lineout and centre Nathan Donnachie’s break was supported by second-row Scott Arroyo-Hover who off-loaded to number eight Danny Hartwell to score under the posts, with fly-half Joe Tarrant converting. The University scored early in the second half, before Tarrant hit again with a penalty to seal victory.

Academy Director Denis Ormesher added: “Our defence won this game. The improvement in our individual tackle technique, and defensive organisation, seen over the last few weeks is marked. The guys have worked hard on defence, and they saw the benefits in this game.”

Blues: Joe Foreman, Ben Brownlie, Jack Simpson, Scott Arroyo-Hover, Ben Latimer (C), Josh Lemon, Joe Bercis, Danny Hartwell, George Humphries, Joe Tarrant, Mike DiPonio, Nathan Donnachie, Brandon Lewsey, Chris Lord, Aaron Morris. Replacements: Jack Warrior, Luke Carter, Stefan Hughes-Brand, Louis Rawlings, Tom Borrett, Will Simmonds, Mike Stanway, Alex Griffith.
