The Blues Academy continued their fine run with a narrow victory over a strong Saracens Academy side.

Bedford had a dream start when Ben Latimer won clean ball and fed Chris Lord, who set up Aaron Morris for a try.

Saracens hit back two minutes later when Nathan Earle went over and some wild Blues passing gave their opponents the chance to counter attack as Josh Sharp kicked a penalty to put them 8-5 ahead. George Perkins crossed to make it 15-5.

Blues were back in it though as George Humphries offloaded to Jackson Hughes to score, with Humphries’ conversion reducing the deficit to 15-12.

After the break, Nathan Donnachie and Morris made space for Lord to score in the left corner, while Humphries added the extras. The second half was interrupted by a neck injury to Saracens’ England U18 hooker Sam James, but Blues ensured the win when Humphries kicked a penalty.

Blues’ academy director Denis Ormesher said: “Our defence found it tough to cope with the Saracens back line in the first half, but we were better organised in the secind half.

“We are very pleased with the progress the lads have made so far this season.”
