Rayer says Blues to blame

Tough lesson for Bedford

The Blues only had themselves to blame as they tossed away a 13-point lead at Rotherham Titans on Sunday.

A try deep into stoppage time saw the Titans snatch a 19-16 victory and Bedford's director of rugby Mike Rayer is adamant his side must learn a tough lesson from the game.

The frustrated Blues boss said: "We should have had the game wrapped up at half time. We dropped the ball under the posts. We need to nail chances like that away from home against a good team like Rotherham. It's a tough lesson.

"We worked hard at times, but in the end it wasn't good enough to win the game. We have only got ourselves to blame. Time and again we were given a let off and time and again we turned it over.

"We've thrown the game away and didn't really achieve any field position second half. We kept coughing the ball up and handing it back to them."

But it was the penalty count that really killed the Blues. They were penalised countless times in the second half and, not only did those decision kill the Blues, they killed the game.

Rayer added: "There must have been 50 penalties in that game. I felt there were two sides trying to play a bit of rugby punctuated by the penalties.

"I'm just a bit worried about our flow and where we are going. We need to have a game break out somewhere along the way."
