TENNIS: Steppingley tennis star James Elliott reached the quarter-finals of the Safina Cup in the Czech Republic this week.

The 16-year-old beat Croatian Marin Mise 6-3, 6-1 and then Michal Kianicka from Slovakia 6-3, 6-3 in the last 16, before losing to Swiss player Daniel Valent 3-6, 6-0, 5-7.

The result means Elliott has reached his highest ITF junior ranking of 452 in the world and is next in action at the U18 Nationals at Roehampton on Friday. It’s a busy month for the teenager as he travels to Finland for the ALK Open and is then scheduled to play in Norway.
