Pritch looks to put one over his old friends

Captain relishes opening test

New Bedford Blues captain James Pritchard is champing at the bit to put one over old club Plymouth Albion on Saturday.

The Blues kick off their Championship campaign with the visit of the West Country outfit and Pritchard, who has taken over the captain's armband this season, is relishing the encounter.

But the Canadian international doesn't need any added motivation to perform.

He said: "I've always enjoy playing Plymouth since I played there.

"There are certain games where you really get up for, but you don't really need any motivation for the first game of the season.

"With the sun out it's the perfect time to play rugby.

"I've still got a few mates down there so it's always good to run out against them and hopefully get one up on them."

Albion boss Graham Dawe, meanwhile, is looking for his side to keep the penalty county down at Goldington Road after they lost their final pre-season game to Welsh Premiership champions Neath at The Gnoll on Saturday.

He said: "Penalties are penalties. They are down to the referee's interpretation and you have to live with them.

"You can train from May until the end of April and there will always still be things to work on.

"That does not change whether you win or lose.

"But we have got as much in place as we possible can."

Dean Richards will take charge of the encounter while his assistants will be Terry Hall and Gareth Copsey, with Steve Lander the assessor.
