Poku warns Southport will be in Town’s faces

BATTLING Town midfielder Godfrey Poku has warned the Hatters that Southport will be ‘in their faces’ when Luton visit Haig Avenue on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.
The 21-year-old is hoping to be part of the Town squad to face the Sandgrounders, for whom he enjoyed a fantastically successful loan spell this season.
He said: “I’m in the mix now. I’m just happy to play for the club.
“In football you play wherever you are. I’m a Luton Town player now and happy to be back.
“Southport are a really good team. They work really hard as a team.
“Southport, they are where they are in the league because of the team.
“Everyone puts in their own individual workrate. They play at a high tempo and get into people’s faces and that’s where they like to play and that’s how they won a lot of games.
“We’ve been training hard, like we do for every game and we’ll go up to try and perform and do the best we can.
“I will be training hard and doing the best I can. When the manager is ready to play me I will be ready to play.”
Poku played over 20 times during his loan spell and has just finished his suspension after picking up 10 bookings during his stay.
But he is thankful for the experience saying: “That was great. It gave me a really good experience and platform.
“Brabs (Gary Brabin) sent me there to get experience and I’ve done what I’ve had to do and done well.
“It’s given me a good platform and I’m grateful to the club and everyone.”
He is also looking forward to possibly locking horns with Southport skipper Alan Moogan, who he learned a lot from.
Poku said: “They are all really good people. I played alongside the captain, Alan Moogan, who was always talking to me and gave me a lot of advice.”
Despite overtures from the Sandgrounders to renew his loan, Poku is now fully focused on the Hatters.
He added: “We are just trying to get our heads into the game and play as well as we can.
“The Southport loan is over now. I’m a Luton Town player.”
