Olympic dream over

Stott missess out on trip to Beijing

Viking Kayak Club's Etienne Stott and partner Tim Baille missed out on the chance to claim an Olympic place after a disappointing performance at the European Championships in Krakow, Poland.

Needing to finish in the top two spots to be sure of making the trip to Beijing, Stott and Baille finished 16th in the C2 canoe semi-finals after incurring six penalty seconds as a result of touching three of the 24 gates.

With four nations battling for only two places, it was tough for the British duo who are currently second in the World Series rankings. The two available places were taken by Russia and Poland.

Aaron Buckingham, who is also a member of the Viking club, finished just outside the medals at a Division Two slalom event at the National Whitewater Centre at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham.

Buckingham, 13, completed a good first run at the event but made a small mistake on his second run that proved to be costly.

It is not all bad news for him, however, as his form should be good enough to secure promotion to Division One at the next event on the calendar.
