Having trained only once as a team before the tournament began on Merseyside, the East Angels recorded a credible 12-12 draw in their opening fixture against East Midlands Hoods.

The region then proceeded to beat North West Thunder and London Sharks in their next two outings, with Bailey and Cotton both featuring on the scoresheet.

Having finished top of their group after day one, the 13-strong outfit thrashed North East Steelers 19-3 in their last pool game on Sunday, to win the group and book their place in the final versus North West Lightning.

The East Angels made a bright start by taking a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but the North West fought back to lead 4-3 at half-time. A tense second half ensued but the East Angels were crowned Inter Regional Champions with a 7-5 victory.

“I am very proud of all the girls, especially as they achieved such a result after spending so little time together,” said Carly Rutter, East Angels U14 head Coach and water polo coach at Bedford Girls’ School.

“The girls performed brilliantly all weekend and they showed great character in the final to come back and beat North West Lightning.”
