Leighton Buzzard hosted the Bedfordshire Ladies County Golf Association First Division Spring meeting and the three-day Championship.

In the First Division Spring Meeting, honours went to Ann Beckett of Pavenham Park with the best gross of 89, and to Jan Churchill-Cox from Bedford & County with the best nett of 77 – pipping Sam Turnbull from Bedfordshire Golf Club on count-back.

Dorothy Blackburn from Aspley Guise won the best front nine and Carol Clarke from South Beds the best back nine.

The Dalton Salver (best nett from First & Second Division meetings) went to Yvonne Richards from Aspley Guise, while honours in afternoon foursomes went to Diane Green and Jenny Rose from Aspley Guise with 30 points.

Saturday saw the four best placed players from the Second Division meeting do battle to decide the winner of the County Cup.

Richards knocked out Sandra Stevens from The Bedford 7 & 5, while Christine Boyd from South Beds triumphed over Gwen Walpole from Pavenham Park 4 & 3.

They did battle themselves in the afternoon in the final of the competition. It was a tight match but in the end honours went to Richards as she won 2 up.

In the Championship, the big question was whether Sally Shayler from Bedfordshire could retain her title as county champion against 16-year-old Annabel Pitts.

It was a very exciting match and eventually saw Sally just hold on to win 1 up and retain the trophy – presented to her by county president Kitty Nulty and county captain Gill Westgate.
