Olivia an Aegon star as LTA pledges financial support

Bedford tennis starlet Olivia Elliott has been named on the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) Aegon FutureStars programme which recognises and supports some of the best juniors in the country.

The 13-year-old has earned her place on the programme following a successful year on court and will now receive support from the LTA.

Elliott will be part of a group of 165 top juniors from around the country who all receive varying levels of funding and support from the LTA.

Leon Smith, LTA Head of Men’s Tennis, said: “We are committed to supporting and identifying our most talented players, and the Aegon FutureStars programme is central to this process for young players who are starting out in the game.

“It’s a long journey for any player hoping to make an impact on the game but we hope that with the right support, these players are given the best possible chance of reaching their full potential.”

David Macmillan, chief marketing officer at Aegon, added: “It’s important to acknowledge the clubs, coaches and parents that make this happen.”

Meanwhile, the teenager was in action at the Herts Summer National Tour event recently, reaching the final of the the U18s doubles with Mae McCutcheon, losing to Alice Thane and Solfie Woon.

She went one better in the U16s event, as paired with Marni Banks they won 6-4, 7-6 against Elizabeth Massie and Hannah McColgan.

She lost in the last 32 of the U18s singles with defeat to Olivia Peet.

She played in the U16 event too, reaching the last 16, before beaten by McColgan.
