A Bedford Ladies masters player has been selected for this year’s England over 50s squad after impressing the selectors at recent trials.
Sas Boston played in the Bedford Ladies’ first team for many years and has now joined in with the new Bedford Masters team which is currently in its inaugural campaign.
Bedford Masters captain Joy Leeson said: “This is a great achievement for Sas to be selected in the England squad.
“She was always a top quality player so its great to see her back playing again.
“The rest of the team, and the whole club, is very proud of her selection to the O50s squad and look forward to supporting her in an England shirt.”
This summer will see the England O50s compete in the EuroHockey Women’s Masters tournament – which is running alongside the Euro’ in London this August – as well as the annual home nations tournament.
‘This has been the first season that Bedford have run a Masters team on the ladies side of the club, and it has proved to be a successful move and a good basis on which to build next season.
A Bedford team will head up to Harrogate again this May and has entered the St Albans over 40s tournament at the end of March.
The team has already supported an over 40s county side in the East regional tournament for the first time and reached the quarter-finals of the England Hockey over 45s cup with a mixture of existing club players as well as the return of some ex-players back to the fold.
A club spokesman said: “As a club we hope to develop masters teams across the various age categories in the coming years and would welcome new players to the set up.”
