Bedford & County AC’s older athletes were in action on Saturday at the South of England Masters Cross Country Championships, held at Shuttleworth Park.

The highlight was Jim McMahon’s run in the 50-59 age group race where he finished in seventh place overall, but more importantly, took the gold medal as winner of the over 55 category.

Jim was backed up by Steve Herring in ninth, Andy Blair in 36th and Paul Gooding in 38th, enabling Bedford to take the silver medals for second place in the 50-59 Championship.

The sought after medal in the 40-49 category failed to materialise but nevertheless, the team ran well finishing in eighth place.

Neil Miller – in his first cross country race for a number of years – had an excellent run, finishing in sixth place, while Stuart Still finished in 24th ( 11th V45), and Jim Black in 68th (34th V45).
