Three talented students from Bedford Girls’ School have enjoyed a summer of outstanding sporting success at international level.

Sixth formers Lottie Bruce and Robyn Armstrong were selected to row for England and travelled to Cork, Ireland where they competed in the Women’s Junior Doubles at the Home International Regatta.

They achieved a fantastic silver medal against a very strong Scottish team, and Lottie also raced with the WJ8+ team, winning a further gold medal.

Both girls were selected for the international squad after achieving gold at the Junior British Rowing Championships in Nottingham earlier in July.

Meanwhile, Year 10 pupil Kate Axford was selected to be a member of the U19B England Lacrosse Squad on their 10-day tour to America.

Kate spent time training hard at the Towson University Lacrosse Camp in Baltimore before taking part in the annual three-day USA Club National Championships in Maryland.

Kate is now looking forward to representing England against an American touring side in Manchester at the start of August.

Jo MacKenzie, headmistress of Bedford Girls’ School, was understandably proud of the girls’ achievements.

She said: “We are extremely proud of what the girls have accomplished this summer.

“We encourage our students to excel across all aspects of school life and we are thrilled to achieve such fantastic results at an international sporting level.”
