Aprille defends her Mowsbury Golf Club title

Mowsbury Golf Club held their 2015 Club Championships at the weekend as club members battled it out over 36 holes – 18 each on Saturday and Sunday.

It was a day to remember for an in-form Aprille Jones as she successfully defended the title she first won in 2014 to become the 2015 Ladies’ Club Champion. The runner-up in this event was Helen Coxen.

The ladies’ nett winner was Emily Broughton, with Pam Coombs finishing in the runner-up spot.

The front nine winners were Rhona Bottomley for the first round and Denise Michelin for the second round, and back nine winners were Karen Heaume for the first round and Assunta Spina for the second round of the competition.

The men’s section titles played for were Club Champion, Mowsbury Cup (Men’s nett winner) and Senior Club Champion.

The title of Club Champion went to the irrepressible James Brown with impressive rounds of 76 and 73 for a total of 149 to win by four shots, and giving Brown his third Club Championship title.

Second place went to Jack Willis with rounds of 78 and 75 for a total of 153, while third place went to Michael Twigg with rounds of 77 and 77 for a total of 154.

The Nett Champion and winner of the Mowsbury Cup was Dave Malcolm with nett rounds of 67 and 71, playing off a handicap of 18 to win by just one from the 2014 winner Andy Aston who recorded rounds of 69 and 70 nett playing off a handicap of 14.

In third place, just two shots further back on 140, was Safet Nimani.

Senior Club Champion was club captain John Jones with nett rounds of 68 and 74 for a total of 142.

The skipper won by two shots from Michael Hill on 144, while Hill, in turn, beat Jim Gibson into third place on count-back.
