A freezing morning following on from an even colder night greeted the guys brave enough to attend the Saturday Open on Dani’s lake.

Despite the weather, the fish were still willing to have a go as the crucians rather than the chub made an appearance.

Mark Wells topped the tree with over 15lb of crucians plus his carp on top for a winning weight of 33lb 7oz.

This Sunday sees round two of the Winter League Pairs take place.

Results: 1, Mark Wells, 33lb 7oz; 2, Steve Rathbone, 20lb 10oz; 3, Nick Rowe, 17lb 12oz; 4, Pete Nash, 13lb 1oz; 5, Simon Drozdiol, 12lb 5oz.
