Modernians crowned visiting top team at open meet

Fifty swimmers from Modernian’s Junior and Senior squads competed at the Hitchin Open Meet and came home with the Visiting Top Team Trophy.

In the 200m freestyle most competitors achieved personal bests. Swim of the event came from Rebecca Charman, reducing her PB by 13secs to take her below the three-minute mark, while James Maltby just pipped Joseph Munno to clock 2.08.61mins.

The 50m backstroke again saw strong swims, with PBs and county times set.

Event debutant Tommy Wilson achieved a county time in 42.78secs.

The 100m breaststroke saw strong performances from Max Wilson, Oliver Robinson, Llewelyn Wake, plus Ollie and James Maltby.

Hannah Currell and Matthew Davies were the only Modernians to race in the 200m fly, finishing in 2.53.55mins and 2.31.00mins.

There were fantastic performances from U11s Cerys Wake, Eloise Bailey, Lulu Murphy, Ailish Gray, Molly Bow, Sam Tyler, Oliver Peacock, Jack Tremain and Brennan Connelly in the 100m individual medley.

In the 200m breaststroke Charlotte Ovendon achieved a three-second PB finishing in 2.43.94mins.

Morgan Allan, Tia Wilson, Deborah Fridkin, Ella Cotton, Huw Turner, Nick Stalley and Oliver Langford all swam this event for the first time.

Erin McCaffray and Rebecca Charman swam the 100m fly for the first time and, after giving each other a great race, finished in 1.30.29mins and 1.32.86mins respectively, while Yulia Ermakova reduced her PB by six seconds.
