Millbrook make Mail on Sunday Grand Finals

The Millbrook GC team have reached the Grand Finals of the Mail on Sunday Club Competition to be held in Spain.

Over 1,500 clubs from all over Britain entered. The first round was back in February against Woburn and this was followed by wins over Wavendon, John O’Gaunt, Pavenham Park, Welwyn Garden City, Leighton Buzzard, Mill Hill and Tydd St Giles to reach the quarter-finals. Paul Kitching, Mark Yeomans, Duncan Steele, Jack Leek, Sean White, Peter Mott, Craig Oliver and Richard Langham helped them to progress.

The quarter-finals were due be played on September 24 at Marriot Worsley Park in Manchester, but after heavy rain in the build-up and on the day they were abandoned.

The Millbrook, Chester Le Street, Farthingstone and Kintore were put through on their results of the earlier knockout rounds.

Meanwhile, Leek will play Rob Sutton (Dunstable Downs) in the Bedfordshire County Matchplay semi-finals at Beadlow Manor (Baron Course) on Sunday at 8am.

The winner will face either Matt Hill (Leighton Buzzard) or Alex Bithrey (South Beds) after lunch in the final starting at 1.07pm.

Vice Captain’s Day: 1, Brian Dale, 41pts; 2 on c/b, Fraser Jamieson, 39pts; 3, Jason Worsley, 39pts.

September Medal, Division One: 1, Walter Kerr, 44pts; 2, Will Wright, 41pts; 3, Peter Mott 40pts. Division Two: 1, Bill Neilson, 43pts; 2, Carl Packeer, 41pts; 3, Trevor Fitt 40pts.
