HATTERS striker Craig McAllister almost made it the perfect debut for his new club against Mansfield Town at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

Thrown on with 20 minutes remaining, the forward found a yard of space in the box but under pressure from covering defenders, pulled his shot wide of the mark as Town were held to a disappointing goalless draw.

He said: “I didn’t really have a lot of time to think about it. It was a snap shot really, the centre half was sliding in and it was on my so called weaker foot.

“So I suppose when things are going for you and hopefully they will be soon, they go in.

“It was nice to get on and I’m delighted to be here, I’m not delighted with the result, that’s the most important thing at the moment.

“I know people want to see us play good football and we want to play football, but sometimes we have to do the ugly stuff to get out of this league.”

Hatters were found lacking in front of goal against the Stags and a number of supporters voiced their disappointment at the final whistle, a reaction that McAllister could understand.

He added: “We need to be getting results and we didn’t get the right result that we all wanted, in our camp we’re disappointed with the point.

“A lot of the lads know that teams come here, face a big crowd, a big club and they’re going away happy with a point. We’re not happy with that, the fans arent happy with that, you can can tell by their reaction.

“If things aren’t quite going right we need to turn teams and grind teams down just to get that goal as the game will open up then.

“It was slow in parts though and the final third is where we’ve got to start doing the business.”
