Matt to tackle Prizefighter?

Bedford Bear could take part in glamorous York Hall affair

Bedford boxer Matt Skelton has denied is definitely going to take part in the latest Prizefighter.

It had been announced on Wednesday, that Skelton was booked to appear at York Hall on October 9, in a battle of the heavyweights.

The Bedford banger was named along with Kevin McBride, Michael Sprott, Michael Holden, Danny Hughes, Ali Adams and Carl Barker as combatants for the 32,000 prize.

Skelton's opponent had even been named as boxing legend Evander Holyfield drew him against Iraq-born Adams, who has nine wins from 12 bouts.

But Skelton told the Times & Citizen that he hadn't confirmed his attendance yet.

He said: "They got in touch with me after I had my fight (with Lee Swaby) and wanted to know if I was interested.

"At the time, I didn't think it was the best route for me to do down because somettimes Prizefighter can work against you.

"Having said that, if no fights can be arranged, then its something to be looked at too, because you have to take what comes on offer."

Matchroom Sport managing director Eddie Hearn believes that any boxer should look to be a part of the competition.

He said: "You only have to look at Audley Harrison as proof at just how Prizefighter can fast track a fighter's career.

"Winning this event raises your profile to another level and the winner of Prizefighter Heavyweights IV will be bang in line for a shot at the title."

Skelton now faces a tough decision on his future, but expects to be in the position to announce his next move in a week's time.

He added: "I've got a meeting with them next week and will know more about exactly what is happening then.

"I am hoping to be back in the ring before Christmas though.

"I have fought abroad in some places like Germany too, so I am seeing if the promoters out there can come up with anything."
