Marston boxer takes ABA title
Remel Ramsaran. Martson ABC. wk 07.
BOXING: Fourteen-year-old Marston ABC boxer Remel Ramsaran, pictured above, was crowned Home Counties champion in the class C 57kg section of the championships held at the Chiltern Hotel in Luton last Monday.
He went toe-to-toe with Billy Smith of Hoddesdon ABC, with Ramsaran throwing the better counter punches and showing a tighter defence.
All three rounds were close and hard fought, but the young Marston boxer triumphed 19-9 as the pair were given a standing ovation at the end, with the encounter being named bout of the night.
On Sunday he represented the Home Counties against London in the quarter-finals of the Schoolboy Championships but lost out to top Repton boxer Jimmy Smith, who has won the English schoolboys for the last two years. Hot favourite for the title again this year, he was too much for the Marston boy, stopping him in the third round.
Smith had boxed 28 times to Ramsaran’s 10 bouts, but the Marston fighter will be much better for the experience.
