Luton's 1988 win among Wembley's best ever games

Memorable 3-2 victory over Arsenal makes top ten list

Luton Town's 1988 3-2 League Cup final victory over Arsenal has been voted the eighth best game ever to be played at Wembley by FourFourTwo magazine.

Number one in the list was the 1998 Division One Play-off final when Charlton beat Sunderland 7-6 on penalties when the game had finished 4-4 after extra-time.

England's 4-2 World Cup final win over Germany in 1966 was third.

The monthly publication has also listed its end-of-season awards.

No current Luton players have made the Championship team of the year, but ex-Hatters Curtis Davies, Carlos Edwards and Gary McSheffrey are all included.

Goal of the season went to former Town man, Portsmouth's Matty Taylor for his long-distance strike against Everton.

Meanwhile, another Luton old boy, Danny Wilson was named League Two manager of the season for guiding Hartlepool to promotion.

The PFA's official team of the year included the same three ex-Hatters as the FourFourTwo selection plus former Luton man Graham Alexander, now of Preston.

Elsewhere, the current Actim Index chart for the top performers of all the English divisions currently has McSheffrey at number one position in the Championship with an index score of 738, winger Edwards is in fourth spot on 633 and one time Town hero Steve Howard ninth with 576.
