Outplayed by a better Peterborough side Luton were lucky to snatch a 25-24 win against Peterborough on Saturday.
Luton grabbed victory with the very last play of the day at Newlands Road to claim a potentially invaluable National League Three Midlands bonus point victory.
Director of rugby Denis Ormesher said: "Our performance today was poor, and we were lucky to win this game.
"Our defence was not good enough and Peterborough were the better side for much of the game.
"I was pleased with the way we kept fighting to the end and it took real spirit to score those two late tries to win the game, but we need to put this together for the whole game, not just the last five minutes.
"We have some tough fixtures coming up over the next couple of weeks and we will need to be perform much better than we did today.
"I was pleased with two of the youngsters - Tom Wilmore, playing his first game this season, and Tom Hancock, making his debut - both did well."
Luton dominated the early stages of the game and, playing with the wind, took the lead after eight minutes with a penalty from full-back Mark Kohler.
And the hosts extended their lead a couple of more minutes when fly-half Chris Meehan exploited a huge gap to score under the posts, Kohler converting.
Peterborough finally began to get into the game with some straight running from their back line and narrowed the gap with a good try from winger Aleksandras Ciuchlejus, converted by fly-half Duncan Low.
However, Luton cemented their lead before the break when a good counter-attack which saw prop Joe Lynch break away from a rolling maul to score in the corner, to make it 15-7 at the interval.
The visitors took advantage of the wind in the second half and second-row Marius Andrijauskas, who had a fine game, scored a good try to make the score 15-12.
And Peterborough took the lead half an hour in when a good counter-attack from their own 22 was finished by Ciuchlejus and converted by centre Will Carrington.
Full-back Max Guseinov then extended the Cambridgeshire side's lead to Peterborough well in charge with just five minutes to go.
Luton finally responded with some good counter-attacks and hit back with a Meehan score.
And with the very last move of the game Luton moved the ball well and scrum-half Wilmore touched down in the corner.
On Saturday, Luton host South Leicester.
