Luton's love for hurting striker
Money pleased by crowd's response
Bereaved striker Matthew Barnes-Homer was given a rapturous reception by the Kenilworth Road crowd as he made a brief cameo in Tuesday night's 3-1 victory against Kidderminster Harriers.
The 24-year-old forward's step-father passed away last week and manager Richard Money was pleased with the way Town's fans reacted to the stricken striker when he came on as a substitute against his former club.
He said: "It was super. I thought the crowd's reaction was terrific. Maybe they have some empathy with him at last.
"He looked a real player I thought even though it was only for eight minutes.
"Hopefully we can get him back to what he is capable of and if we can it's like a new signing for us."
Barnes-Homer was also given the backing of veteran striker Kevin Gallen, who scored twice on the night.
He said: "I don't think we knew the situation. It was a bit of a shock to him.
"I don't think he realised his step-dad would pass away so soon. It's a hard time for him.
"The players have gathered round and it's nice the fans gave him lots of applause and I'm sure that will help him.
"It's a tough time. He has just got to try and overcome it as best he can."
And Money was also glad with the way Luton's fans responded to the entertaining fare his side dished up.
He added: "I thought the crowd were much, much more supportive tonight.
"I know it helps to go two-up early.
"I thought there was a genuine mood tonight that maybe they've been a little bit harsh on the group of late.
"I thought there was a real bond and togetherness tonight between the crowd and the players for the first time since I've been here."
