Double delight as Junior Blues sweep the board

The Mobbs Memorial Match is one of the longest-standing representative fixtures in English rugby.

Ever since its inauguration in 1921, the match has been played to honour the legacy of Edgar Mobbs, a rugby player and soldier.

The match now sees the British Army taking on the Saints and Bedford Blues on a biennial basis. The Mini Mobbs is played before this match begins.

The U11s defeated a strong Northampton Old Scouts side in a very tense and close final, emerging as 2-1 victors at the final whistle.

This triumph secured them the enviable place of being not only Mobbs winners, but also County Cup winners, having remained unbeaten this season.

The Bedford Junior Blues U12s were not to be outdone, however, as they too stormed to victory by beating local rivals Olney RFC in a very tense final.

In doing so they too achieved the double of winning the County Cup and the Mobbs Trophy.

U11s coach Andy Radnor said: “The players deserve this success, they have worked hard all season and this game showed the spirit and determination of the whole squad.”

U12s coach Llewellyn John added: “At the Junior Blues we encourage teamwork and sportsmanship and this ethos has shone through this season. We are so proud of our players who have proved that the Bedford Junior Blues are truly a winning team’.
