LDSRC Lust for the title
Squash round-up
Luton and Dunstable Squash and Rackets Club took a giant stride towards taking the Bedfordshire County title in their inaugural year with a magnificent 17-5 win against Silsoe.
Team captain Dean Pike said: "Personally it was disappointing to have to sit this one out through injury, but there were some great performances and Declan Osborn was unlucky not to make it five out of five, but did well to pick up two points nevertheless."
With star number one string Steve Davies missing and captain Dean Pike injured, it looked like Silsoe might be able to complete the double over LDSRC.
However, a rare appearance by world number 51, Victoria Lust, strengthened the side and demonstrated the strength in depth of the club.
The three and four strings both won comfortably, and Lust showed why she is a professional with a convincing 3-0 victory.
The remaining two matches were shared, but by then LDSRC had avenged their defeat earlier in the season and are now just two victories away from winning the championship.
Next up for LDSRC is a trip to the Open University. Victory there would mean the team have the opportunity to wrap up the title the following week at home.
LDSRC 17 Silsoe 5: Victoria Lust 3 Ross Proudfoot 0; Declan Osborn 3 Nathan Derrick 2; David Lankester 3 Mark Tentori 0; Mark Pinnock 3 Richard Earl 0; Steve Wells 3 Stewart Williams 2.
