King’s Lynn 20 Bedford Tigers 30

A LATE flourish saw Bedford Tigers returned to wining ways on Saturday as they fought back from 20-10 down with 15 miutes left to win 30-20 at King’s Lynn in in the East England Regional Division on Saturday.

The two sides shared four first half tries in a 10-10 stalemate as Lee Walker gave the Tigers the lead after spotting a gap to touch down under the posts.

The hosts took the lead with two tries of their own before Kev Scales finished a sweeping, fighting his way over as he stretched out to touch down in the corner.

Tigers struggled in the opening stages of the second half and were punished to the tune of two further scores by the west Norfolk side who were begining to frustrate and suffocate the Tigers.

Realising that the game was slipping away, coaches Sam Richbell and Rob Ashton made some drastic changes as they rejigged the Bedford side.

It seemed to be the remedy that the Tigers needed and the new arrangment spawned a four-try resurgence.

Richbell linked well with Walker to stretch the King’s Lynn defence, while the skill and experience of the returning Gary Flook shored up the forwards.

Luke Donaldson continued to impress and push the Tigers further up field with some scintillating runs.

Walker kickstarted the comeback with his second try of the game shortly followed by a try for Ashton, who then latched onto a barnstorming Darren Pickard run to set Donaldson up for a third try in quick succession.

Tom Faulkner completed the scoring and wrapped up an amazing comeback after pouncing on a loose ball in the in goal area to score his first try for the club.

Bedford will need to improve on current performances to challenge for the title at the end of the season, but they will be boosted by the returns of Paul Ryder, Gary Flook and Richy Sinclair during June.

Tigers have a week off this Saturday as they’ve drawn a bye in the regional trophy knockout competition.

They will be instead be launching their second team as they look to expand and strengthen their squad.
