Hinkins testimonial all for a good cause

Blues' star wants to help family member who suffered a severe brain haemorrhage

Stars of past and present will descend on Goldington Road on Sunday, April 27 to celebrate the career of Bedford Blues player James Hinkins.

Hinkins is hoping his testimonial will raise at least 8,000 for charity and also for his brother-in-law, who suffered a near fatal brain haemorrhage back in November.

He said: "It obviously hit our whole family extremely hard. He survived but has been struggling in hospital ever since and his young family have also been greatly affected. This is a sure-fire way to raise money and do my bit for them and that's what has spurred me on.

"I'm also trying to locate a research-based charity because he had warning signs that weren't picked up on and were simply diagnosed as migraines. I want to help prevent this kind of thing from happening.

"I'd ideally like to raise no less than 8,000 to split between a chosen charity and my brother-in-law's family, so they can hopefully sort a better life for him if him he comes home."

Hinkins will lead a Bedford All Stars side against an East Midlands XV. Former Blues that are set to feature include Roy Winters, John Brooks, Kramer Ronaki, Ben Whetstone and Soane Tonga'uiha – along with many of the current crop.

Kick-off will be at 3pm and entry to the ground will be a donation of 5 on the gate. Hospitality is also on offer on the day with tables available in both the marquee and the Cambridge suite.

For more information on booking a table or to make a donation email jameshinkins@hotmail.com.
