After an unbeaten run of four matches at home Ampthill came out second best to high flying London Colney on Saturday and went down 4-0.

The Colney side showed why they are battling for the runners up spot in the SSML Premier Division table, while and Town’s youngsters could not maintain their form of recent matches.

Town competed well with the hosts until midway through the first half when Stefano Geraldes swept home the first goal.

Ampthill made the first of their changes at half-time, but a good finish from Greg Shaw doubled the Colney lead within five minutes of the interval.

A Town double substitution soon followed, with Ashley Mead’s height forced up front.

But although Town continued to look for chances, it was the home side who increased their momentum, and further efforts from Spencer Clarke-Mardel and Archie McClellend wrapped up a comfortable win.

Ampthill return home on Saturday to host AFC Dunstable who are in second place in the table and have beaten Town twice already this term in the league and the FA Cup.

Town then go to Stotfold on Tuesday and they will be looking to improve their away form at Roker Park against a side who are also struggling in the lower reaches of the division.
